I have been actively involved in Columbia's music scene since 1994 as a member of the "Ironweed Bluegrass Band" and "The Greencorn Stingband." I was asked by Mitch Jayne to take over the "Mitch and Diana's Kitchen" show in 1998.
Founded by the guitar and banjo tandem of brothers Rodney and Doug Dillard in the early '60s, the Dillards were the most experimental bluegrass band of their era. Along with bassist Mitch Jayne and mandolinist Dean Webb, the original four were masterly traditional harmonizers and pickers who scored a contract with Elektra and had recurring role on "The Andy Griffith Show."

Aug 09, 2010 · I just read that Mitch Jayne passed away yesterday. A terrific musician, writer, front man, comedian. My search results showed he was a tail gunner in WWII. Some websites say he was born in 1930, a few say 1928. Either way Mitch was a very young tail gunner. He was always one of my favorite figures in bluegrass. There are very few front men of his quality in bluegrass.
